Three Scouts celebrate Eagle status together

Shawn O'Grady (l-r) of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick and Sean Duffy and Tim White, both of East Brunswick, renew the Boy Scout oath during the recent Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.
EAST BRUNSWICK — In true Boy Scout fashion, Shawn O'Grady, Timothy White and Sean Duffy shared the spotlight for their Eagle Court of Honor June 19 at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, Old Stage Road.

Four years ago, the boys were all Scouts in Troop 220, based in East Brunswick. O'Grady transferred to Troop 10 of South Brunswick but never forgot his first group of fellow Scouts. Even though the boys were in different troops, they came together to help each other with their Eagle projects.

White made the rank of Eagle two years ago with Troop 220, Duffy earned the Eagle rank last year with Troop 220, and O'Grady made the rank this year with Troop 10. Neither White nor Duffy had the opportunity to have an Eagle Court of Honor with Troop 220, but the Scouts joined together to share the honor of receiving the highest rank in Boy Scouting together on June 19.

Central New Jersey Boy Scout executives from the Joyce Kilmer and Semeos districts, as well as East Brunswick Mayor David Stahl, were present for the Court of Honor.

Together, the three East Brunswick Eagle Scouts performed more than 2,000 hours of volunteer service to the community. O'Grady built a meditation path and garden at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, with more than 1,100 hours of service. White made improvements and restorations in the area of Dallenbach Lake, off Dunhams Corner Road, with over 500 hours of service. Duffy built an outdoor classroom, planted trees, and improved the wooded area outside East Brunswick High School, totaling over 500 hours of service.

O'Grady will be a sophomore at East Brunswick High School; Duffy and White both graduated East Brunswick High School. White will be joining the U.S. Marines.
