Rocketmen to kick off Monroe free music series

The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission's 2008 Music in the Park Summer Series of free live musical events will begin 6-8 p.m. July 10 in the open-grove gazebo on the lake at Thompson Park, Monroe, with a rock-music performance by The Rocketmen.

The remaining concert schedule is as follows:

July 17 - Caribbean Steel Beat, playing Calypso music of the islands, accompanied by two limbo dancers;

July 24 - Joe Traina Quintet, featuring a trip down memory lane with show tunes from Broadway hits, oldies, jazz, classics and remembrances from "Friday Evenings at Sardi's";

July 31 - Aztec Two Step, featuring Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman, playing and singing their own compositions and the music of Simon and Garfunkel with acoustic guitars and vocals;

Aug. 7 - Sue Giles and Quartet, jazz and blues vocals and music;

Aug. 14 - Rhythm and Roots, a Latin quartet led by Josh Robinson, offering vocals, bass, timbales, congas and horn to get the audience singing and dancing along.

Concertgoers should bring their own chairs or blankets.
