Farm to Table to feature locally grown produce

Elijah's Promise Culinary School, New Brunswick, will host its second Farm to Table event at 6:30 p.m. on June 17, rain or shine, at theMiddlesex County EARTH Center, home of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County, Davidson's Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.

The object of the Farm to Table series is to bring attention to the value of purchasing fresh, locally grown produce, thereby reducing pollution created by shipping food long distances. It also is maintained that buying local produce encourages growers to continue farming and preserving open space rather than selling off acreage to developers.

Participants in the event will experience the preparation methods used by chefs to get the most out of seasonal crops. The food picked from the EARTH Center's vegetable garden and prepared by Elijah's Promise chefs will be available for tasting.

A suggested $10 registration donation is required by June 13. For more information and to register, call 732-545-9002, ext. 110, or e-mail btaylor@elijahspromise.net.
