EBPD to present awards; swear in new patrolman

EAST BRUNSWICK - In recognition of Police Week, the township's police force will hold its annual Police Awards ceremony tonight at 7 p.m.

The ceremony recognizes the sworn officers of the township's police department, as well as civilians who have exhibited exemplary service to the community in the past year.

In addition to the awards ceremony, Patrolman Michael J. Egan will be sworn in as a new member of the department.

Egan, 24, of Deptford Township, is a 2007 graduate of the Gloucester County Police Academy as an Alternate Route Recruit. He has completed his Bachelor of Science degree in BusinessAdministration from Cabrini College, Radnor, Pa. He has spent the past two years as a cadet officer with the Woodbury City Police Department and a special police officer with the Deptford Township Police Department.

Egan will be assigned to the patrol division after successfully completing his field training.

In addition, the Rev. Thomas Walsh from St. Bartholomew's Church, Ryders Lane, will be sworn in as police chaplain.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will start at 7 p.m. at the East Brunswick Senior Center, 3 Jean Walling Civic Center.
