Singer Richie Havens to perform in Monroe

The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission will present Richie Havens in concert at 7 p.m. on April 5 at the Richard P. Marasco Center for Performing Arts, Monroe Township High School, Perrineville Road.

Havens, a singer, songwriter, performer and artist, first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960s. His voice has been heard in a wide variety of venues from the Woodstock (N.Y.) Music and Arts Fair in 1969 to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration Gala in 1993. Havens has used his music to convey messages of brotherhood and personal freedom for more than three decades.

Tickets, which are $15 for general-admission, $12 for patrons, free of charge to students, are available in advance at the Monroe Township Senior Center, in the municipal complex, One Municipal Plaza; theMonroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road; and at the door two hours before the performance.
