Numerous cars broken into during past three weekends

SPOTSWOOD - Police are investigating a series of vehicular break-ins that occurred during the past few weekends.

Police said more than a dozen parked vehicles were entered over the first two weekends of February, and several more break-ins took place last weekend. The suspect or suspects are allegedly stealing various kinds of items from inside the cars. Most of the vehicles entered were in the large Clover Estates development, located around Summerhill and Old Stage roads, according to borough police. But this past weekend, three cars were entered in areas closer to DeVoe Lake.

The suspect or suspects are not forcibly breaking into the vehicles, but only going into cars that are left unlocked, according to Spotswood Detective Gene Scheicher.

"They're not taking the cars, just whatever they can find inside the car that's loose, anything they can take out of the car quickly," he said, noting that the cars are not exhibiting damage, and no evidence is being left at the scene.

Scheicher said residents should be sure to keep their vehicles locked at all times, and also to be alert and call police to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. The police investigation is continuing. Residents who may have information about the thefts can call

Scheicher at (732) 416-1859.
