Senior center to offer lectures, party, screening A variety of upcoming programs will be offered at the Monroe Township Senior Center, 1 Municipal Plaza. For more information and to register for events, call the center at (732) 521-6111, unless otherwise indicated. "Celebrating Elvis" is set for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 10. The event will feature Elvis Presley trivia, music and the movie "King Creole." After the film, guests will partake of refreshments suitable for "The King." Space is limited. Advance registration is requested. Members of the center's Green Thumbs, a group of houseplant enthusiasts, meet at 11 a.m. on the second Wednesday of every month to share their love of plants and discuss related issues. An informal holiday party, complete with a presentation of "George Burns Celebrates 80 Years in Show Business" (1983), is planned for 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 11. Guests will celebrate the new year while dining on chicken breasts with spinach in a light cream sauce, rice pilaf and baked apple with ice cream. Tickets cost $5 per person. Space is limited. Reservations required. Tables of eight are available. "Renoir Landscapes," a program exploring the inventiveness and importance of Pierre-Auguste Renoir as a painter of landscapes during the first 30 years of his career, is set for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 14. The slide-illustrated talk is presented by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Advance registration requested. "Reverse Mortgages" will be the topic at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 15. Guest speaker will be Financial Freedom's Beverly Anderson. Advance registration requested. Peter Askes, clinical director of First Choice Physical Therapy, will offer free knee screenings, by appointment only, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the center. Educational material, a knee-health questionnaire and suggested exercises will be part of the consultation. Space is limited. Call the senior center to make an appointment. The Presidents Series with Mike Ferreira will continue in January. "The World Stage" (Episode 6: Monroe, McKinley, Wilson and G.H.W. Bush) will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 18. "Heroic Posture" (Episode 7: Washington, W.H. Harrison, Grant and Eisenhower) is set for 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 25. Interested individuals should register for each program separately. "Solutions for Healthy Living," with Dr. Bryan Berger of Innovative Wellness Center, will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 18. The discussion will focus on options for healthy living. Ideas for future programs also will be explored. Advance registration requested. |
