Don't allow legislators to borrow more
The public is once again being asked by the financially inept politicians of this state to borrow $200 million for a one-year "fix" to replenish the Garden State Preservation Trust.

I am sorry, but this "crisis" has been looming for quite some time, and none of our civic-minded representatives have had any impetus to address this issue until quasi pay-to-play ethics reforms dried up our magnificent politicians' pot of gold.

Time and time again, reports came out on how the politically connected were rewarded through questionable payments from the Preservation Trust Fund for land that was already protected or grossly overpriced - remember Edison/Morris and Vas/Perth Amboy deals and look no further than Monroe's fiasco in commandeering parkland for a high school. I guess "in perpetuity" in this state means that when the ruling power screws up so much that it can't find its way out of the mess it created, it steals from the people because we're too stupid to notice or too engrossed in ourselves to do anything about it.

Perhaps if this fund had been administered by competent land managers there would be no need for borrowing or more debt.

I will be voting no for more borrowing for our irresponsible legislators. You just don't get it. The taxpayers of New Jersey can't afford your lifestyle anymore.

Carol Bjornsen
