Old Bridge woman, 18, dies in pedestrian accident in E.B.

EAST BRUNSWICK - An 18-year-old Old Bridge woman was killed last week as she was crossing Route 18 and was struck by a car.

Heather N. Allen was crossing the highway at 5:14 a.m. Oct. 11 when the accident occurred in the northbound lanes. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to East Brunswick Police Lt. William Krause.

Allen was dressed in dark blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt at the time, which was before daylight. She had crossed from the southbound side to the northbound side near the Kmart shopping center.

After she crossed over the concrete divider in the median of the roadway, Allen was struck by a 1999 Nissan Sentra being operated by Peter Kulcsar, 23, of Monroe, according to police.

Police said yesterday that no summonses will be issued against Kulcsar.

Krause did not have information about where Allen was going to and from at the time of the accident.

Police stressed the importance of pedestrians using properly marked crosswalks, particularly on busy highways such as Route 18. Krause said there is a marked crosswalk about 200 to 300 feet south of where the accident occurred.
