Monroe teacher arrested on sexual assault charge Victoria Blevins was arrested at her Robbinsville home on Oct. 11 on charges of sexual assault and official misconduct after an investigation uncovered computer instant messages and phone calls between Blevins and an underage female, authorities said. The correspondence suggested there was a relationship of a sexual nature, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. The alleged victim was a student at the high school at the time the alleged relations took place, but was never taught by Blevins. The student, who no longer attends the school, was not yet 18 at the time of the relationship, authorities said. The student's mother notified officials at the high school of the instant messages, found on a laptop, 10 days prior to Blevins' arrest. School officials immediately alerted the police, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office conducted a joint investigation with the Monroe Township Police Department. Bail for Blevins was set at $100,000, and she was initially being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. She has since posted bail, according to Assistant Prosecutor Andrea Carter. If convicted of the crimes, Blevins could face between five and 10 years in prison, Carter said. Aside from the content of instant messages and phone calls, which authorities said were placed at all hours of the day and night between the two, the student reportedly told police of a sexual relationship she shared with Blevins that spanned from April to June. The sexual activities took place at various locations, authorities said, but never at the school. Carter would not release more specific information regarding where the relations took place. Monroe Board of Education President Kathy Kolupanowich said she did not wish to comment on the situation, but said Blevins is not teaching at the school as of now. The board was scheduled to discuss the matter at its meeting last night, she said. School Board Attorney Viola Lordi did not return a call for comment. Blevins, also an assistant coach for girls basketball at the high school, is a 2002 graduate of Monroe Township High School, where she was a star player on the girls softball team. Blevins was named to the All-GMC team after hitting .398 with 28 RBIs and seven doubles in her senior year. She was a top offensive force over the course of three years, and left the school with several batting records. Blevins attended the College of New Jersey, Ewing, and also received recognition for her contributions to the women's softball team there. Authorities are requesting that anyone with information on the case contact Detective Jason Grosser of the Monroe Township Police Department at (732) 521-0222, ext. 147, or Investigator James Kelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes Unit at (732) 745- 3600 anytime, day or night. |
