Councilman owes apology to those renting homes in borough
This letter is in response to comments made Milltown councilman Randy Farkas in a recent article titled "Changes Likely in Ford Avenue Plans" (Sentinel, Sept. 27).

Mr. Farkas made a statement saying that people who rent property in the town are not usually stakeholders in the community or do not take philosophical ownership of the property they are renting. I could not believe his ignorance in making such a broad statement about renters. I have rented my home in Milltown for almost 11 years and take pride in my home, as do all of the people I know who also rent in this community.

As far as being stakeholders in the community, my family and I have spent countless hours volunteering in this community, on the Fourth of July Committee and the Haunted River Walk Committee (with Mr. Farkas), both of which I have had to give up because of time constraints. My friends who also rent have spent countless hours volunteering with the Haunted River Walk Committee and other civic organizations.

I can drive around this town and see houses that have not been fully maintained and may not have curb appeal, and they are not always rental properties.

How dare you make such a broad statement without having all of the facts. I think you owe the many renters in this town an apology.
