EBPD steps up efforts against aggressive drivers EAST BRUNSWICK - Township police, in conjunction with the state Department of Highway Traffic Safety, are stepping up patrols to target aggressive drivers through the end of September. The federally funded program kicked off earlier this week. Additional officers are being deployed on a daily basis, including the Labor Day weekend, with the intention of enforcing specific, hazardous traffic violations, including but not limited to speeding, tailgating, erratic lane changes and reckless driving, according to a press release from the East Brunswick Police Department. Most violations in question carry at least two points. Officers are taking a zero-tolerance approach in enforcing the violations, according to the department. Along with the extra patrols, the department's Traffic Safety Section is participating in the program and will be deployed to specific locations throughout the township for stringent enforcement operations. "The East Brunswick Police Department has taken an aggressive stance against these type of violators and will remain vigilant in its enforcement efforts long after the program has been completed," according to the press release. "These efforts have been put into place in order to reduce the amount of collisions and motor vehicle fatalities the township endures on an all-to-frequent basis." |
