Movies, lectures, programs on tap at senior center

A variety of upcoming programs will be offered at the Monroe Township Senior Center, 1 Municipal Plaza. For more information and to register for events, call the center at (732) 521-6111, unless otherwise indicated.

A Western Film Festival will feature "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, at 1 p.m. on Aug. 13, and "Shane," starring Alan Ladd and Jack Palance, at 1 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the center. Mike Ferreira will host the festival. Registration is requested for each film.

Seniors are invited to the monthly meeting of The Friends of the Senior Center set for 1:30 pm. On Aug. 14. The event will feature refreshments and entertainment by the Sweet Adelines. Free blood-pressure screenings will be available on a first-come basis from 1-3 p.m. For more information, call the Friends at (732) 521-2101.

The Monroe Township Senior Center Green Thumbs, a group of houseplant enthusiasts, will discuss plant-related issues at 11 a.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.

The computer-animated movie "Over the Hedge," featuring the voices of Bruce Willis, William Shatner and Garry Shandling, will be screened at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the center. Grandchildren age 6 and above are welcome. Special treats will be offered, while supplies last. Reservation are required.

Installments of "Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America" will be screened at 10:30 a.m. on the third and fourth Fridays of the month, and "Teaching Evolution" is set for Aug. 17. Separate registration is requested for each film.
