Monroe postal employees earn safety award
MONROE - Officials from the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) recently joined U.S. Postal Service senior managers and community leaders to recognize employees of the township post office on Perrineville Road for earning OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) award at the highest level.
The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the 4-by-6-foot VPP flag from OSHA Area Director Robert Kulick to the Monroe postal team.
VPP recognizes and encourages excellence in occupational safety and health protection. In order to qualify for VPP certification, a facility must have comprehensive safety management systems, and the employees assigned to the facility must be actively involved in anticipating, evaluating and controlling potential safety and health hazards. OSHA recognizes only those facilities that have implemented the best safety and health programs, according to a press release from the agency.
Currently, the Postal Service has 100 worksites recommended or approved in the VPP.
"I am very proud of our employees earning the top VPP Star status from OSHA," said Monroe Postmaster Robert Reese.
The Monroe Post Office employs 98 workers who are responsible for the distribution and delivery of 126,500 pieces of mail on an average business day to 20,504 addresses and 1099 post office boxes.
"By achieving VPP Star status, you are our 'safety superstars' and we appreciate all your hard work and dedication," Postal Service Central N.J. District Manager Vito Cetta said.
