Summer camps designed to build self-confidence

The Monroe Municipal Alliance Committee will offer a variety of free confidence-building summer camps at Mill Lake School, 115 Monmouth Road.

All camps are presented in an age-appropriate manner, using a variety of teaching methods including dialogue, role-play, literature, song, dance and arts and crafts.

The purpose and ultimate intent of the Monroe Municipal Alliance Committee is to eradicate the abuse of alcohol and other drugs throughout the community.

The Build Your Self-Esteem Judo Camp, which is slated for Aug. 20-24, will be facilitated by Ruggiero Brothers Judo Camp. Youngsters in grades 1-4 will attend from 9:30-11 a.m.; grades 5-8, 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; grades 9-12, 1-2:30 p.m. Participants are asked to donate a new piece of athletic equipment for individuals in need.

A Summer Wrestling Camp is planned for Aug. 20, 21 and 22 and will be facilitated by Rick Dellagatta and other instructors. The schedule is as follows: grades 2-5, 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; grades 6-8, 1-2:30 p.m.; grades 9-12, 2:45-4:15 p.m.

The camp, which is sponsored by the Monroe Teen Awareness Program, is designed to teach communication, active listening, problem-solving, anger management and coping skills. New and experienced males and females are welcome. Participants are asked to bring a new educational book to donate to individuals in need.

A Tanners Manners Summer Camp is set for Aug. 20-24. Preschoolers will attend from 9:30-10:30 a.m.; kindergarten-third grade, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; grades 4-6, 1-2:30 p.m. Youngsters will gain etiquette knowledge as a key to building positive friendships, strong self-esteem and leadership ability. Participants are asked to donate a back-to-school item for youngsters in need.
