Community Bulletin Board Elijah's Promise, New Brunswick, will present "Chef's Night" June 11 at 6 p.m. at the New Brunswick Hyatt. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit and its Promise Jobs Culinary School. The event will feature 20 stations offering items prepared by chefs from local restaurants such as The Frog and the Peach, Hyatt Regency New Brunswick, Harvest Moon Brewery & Café, Panico's and Fiddleheads. There will also be live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $125, and $103 from each ticket will benefit Elijah's Promise. The nonprofit operates the New Brunswick Soup Kitchen, social service programs and the Promise Jobs Culinary School, which offers an intensive training program to prepare low-income adults for employment in the dining industry. Youngster to hold 3rd annual lemonade stand Michele Katora, a fifth-grade student at Bowne Munro Elementary School, East Brunswick, will hold her third annual Alex's Lemonade Stand on June 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2 Biernacki Ct., East Brunswick. The house is at the corner Old Stage Road, across from the Spotswood ShopRite. All proceeds will benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. The stand will be one of more than 1,200 registered Alex's Lemonade Stands across the United States this weekend. Receipts can be provided for tax-deductible donations. East Brunswick AARP Chapter No. 4855 will hold its last general meeting of the summer June 12 at Albert Avenue Park, Milltown. The event will include a catered picnic and reservations are required. A trip to see the "Three Tenors Show" with Michael Crouse, Rinaldo Toglia and Thomas Stallone at the Hilton, Atlantic City, will be July 12. Cost is $44, which includes transportation, $19 in coin, the show, and $5 in food. A fundraiser for wounded soldiers returning from Iraq will be Aug. 17 at The Ria Mar Restaurant. Participants sought for home-arts event at fair
The Middlesex County Fair Association invites residents to participate in the Home-Arts Festival at the 69th annual Middlesex County Fair set for Aug. 6-12 at the fairgrounds, Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. The Home-Arts Festival affords an opportunity for the nonprofessional to enter his or her creative projects and products for exhibition and competition. Exhibits are judged against each other by appropriate category or division, and winners are awarded ribbons and premiums. There are adult and children's divisions. Interested individuals may obtain an entry form for the Home-Arts Festival at the fair association's new Web site, www.middlesexcountyfair.org. In addition, the Web site offers information about other fair activities including the weeklong blood drive.

Vendors sought for USS Avenger fundraiser The USS Avenger, Edison, is seeking vendors for a fundraiser to be held June 17 to benefit the Van Houten Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The event, co-sponsored by the Van Houten Foundation Inc., will be held at the Victorian Manor Reception Hall, Edison. It will feature charity auctions of merchandise from sports personalities, television and film celebrities, games and activities, and catered food. Proceeds will be used to establish a shelter for women and children in Middlesex County, for two scholarships for students pursuing environmental studies, and for JDRF research. Rosary society seeks vendors for flea market St. Thomas Rosary Society, Old Bridge, is seeking vendors for its 17th annual Giant Flea Market set for 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 in St. Thomas the Apostle Church parking lot, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Boating-safety exam scheduled for June 9 Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-1, 167 Main St., Sayreville, will conduct a Boating Safety Test Out Examination at 9 a.m. on June 9. Individuals who take the exam must have been born prior to 1979 and certify that they have at least 100 hours of boating experience. Proof of age must be provided prior to taking the examination. Cost for the test is $25. Successful completion will certify an individual for the New Jersey State Boating Safety Certificate that is now a state law. The exam may be taken only one time. Diabetes support group will meet at hospital The Raritan Bay Medical Center Marion Tanzman Diabetes Center will sponsor a free diabetes support group meeting from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on June 13 in Auxiliary Hall B and C, lower level of the Old Bridge Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the medical center, off Ferry Road, between routes 9 and 18.
