East Brunswick Division of Parks has announced Crystal Springs Family Aquatic Center is now open weekends only through June 17, with hours 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beginning June 22, the park will be open daily for the summer season with hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Seasonal memberships are still available, as is daily patronage. 'Amazing Blueberry Dinner' June 14
Brunswick Women's Connection will hold its "Amazing Blueberry Dinner" June 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. at East Brunswick Chateau, 678 Cranbury Road. The cost is $20 for the dinner. Speakers will be Judith Krall-Russo, a food historian, and Roxanne Kamichoff, a private investigator and former magazine editor. Used bike collection June 9 in Sayreville
The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Middlesex County Division of Solid Water Management (DSWM) will sponsor a used bicycle collection June 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. The collection for Pedals for Progress will be held at the Sayreville Recycling Center, Fort Grumpy, Bordentown Avenue. Individuals are asked to donate unwanted bicycles for distribution by Pedals for Progress for developing counties in Latin America, Africa and the Pacific Islands. The bikes provide residents with reliable transportation to commute to work, transport produce to market, or to access health care and other services. Association's Photo Archive Day June 10
The Jamesburg Historical Association will host its third annual Photo Archive Day June 10 from 2-4 p.m. at Lakeview Mansion, 203 Buckelew Ave. Jamesburg-area residents are invited to bring any photographs or postcards with a Jamesburg connection to be scanned for inclusion in the Association's photo archives collection and possible inclusion in the "Jamesburg of Yesteryear" presentation. It is a 45-minute PowerPoint presentation featuring approximately 200 images from Jamesburg. Photos and postcards will be scanned and returned that same day. Appleby drama club sets June 9 pasta night
The Appleby Players will hold their second pasta dinner fund-raiser on June 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Spotswood High School, Summerhill Road. Boating-safety exam scheduled for June 9 Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-1, 167 Main St., Sayreville, will conduct a Boating Safety Test Out Examination at 9 a.m. on June 9. Individuals who take the exam must have been born prior to 1979 and certify that they have at least 100 hours of boating experience. Proof of age must be provided prior to taking the examination. Pilots to offer free flights for young people Individuals ages 8-17 are invited to take to the skies at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter No. 315 Young Eagles Flight Rally set to begin at 10 a.m. on June 9 at Old Bridge Airport, 182 Pension Road. Rain date is June 10. Volunteer pilots will be on hand to explain how airplanes fly and how to ensure that safety is the primary consideration before each flight. Interested young people will be able to take an orientation flight at no charge. Following the free flight, participants will receive a certificate making them official Young Eagles Flight members. The youngsters' names will then be entered into the "World's Largest Logbook," which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum, Oshkosh, Wis. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. Flights will begin soon after registration opens. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be available at a nominal fee to cover costs, but all flights are free of charge and voluntary on the part of the pilots involved. A registration form signed by a parent or guardian is required. In the event that a parent or guardian cannot be present at the event, forms will be available in advance. Only young people ages 8-17 may participate in the program. Parents and other visitors may be accommodated with a flight if time and available pilots permit. The rally is part of the EAA Aviation Education Foundation's Young Eagles program designed to inform youth about general aviation and recreational flying. The original goal was to provide 1 million young people with an airplane ride by the end of 2003, the 100th anniversary of powered flight and the 50th anniversary of the EAA. The goal was achieved, and the program was so successful that it has been continued. Volunteer EAA members also conduct Young Eagles flights individually. Milltown Rec to offer classes, trips, day care Milltown Department of Recreation will present a "Spring Youth Art Odyssey" for Milltown children age 4-16 for nine weeks from June 9-Aug. 11. Individuals should call Recreation for times and pricing. A trip to showboat Casino, Atlantic City, will be June 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. A trip to see the Mets vs. the L.A. Dodgers will be Aug. 25 with game time 7:10 p.m. cost is $40 for transportation from Milltown Borough Hall, and ticket. Trips depart from Milltown Borough Hall. Summer school age child care will be available fur full days in either a three-day or five-day option at two different sites for children in grades K-3, and fourth grade and higher. The program includes indoor and outdoor play, daily swimming, bus trips, snacks, arts and crafts, and other activities. Registration, lunch and a golf clinic will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. There will also be live and silent auctions, dinner and an awards reception beginning at 6 p.m. The cost is $2,200 for a corporate foursome.
