Urges residents to wake up, see mismanagement in E.B. I read the article ("Councilman Upset Over Golden Triangle Papers," Sentinel, May 17) about Mayor William Neary's maneuver in allowing National City Bank to be the primary lien holder if Toll Brothers defaults in the Golden Triangle deal. I think it is time for the taxpayers of East Brunswick to wake up and realize the mismanagement that is going on, protecting the interests of everyone except the residents of East Brunswick. It is also funny how suddenly Township Councilman David Stahl is dismayed with the latest event. Where was he when the whole thing went through? Where was he when, as part of Mayor Neary's "yes" council, he approved everything that the mayor presented for a vote without any questions and even made fun of former Councilwoman Christi Calvano when she asked questions? The sweetheart deal with Toll Brothers doesn't even have a deadline for the developer to start the project. It can postpone it forever and the township will be without any ratables coming in from the deal, besides losing the half a million dollars a year that Sam's Club was paying, and, worst of all, building a $50-million-plus parking garage that we did not need. The list of this administration's mismanagement (including Councilman Stahl's yes votes) is extensive. Here are a couple of them: + pistol range (more than $1 million); + bus contract fiasco (hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorneys' fees); + Tices Lane and Old Bridge Turnpike (improvements way over budget, traffic light installed without Department of Transportation approval, inoperative); + Toll Brothers' sweetheart deal ($35 million to be paid to the township in seven years with no interest, more than $50 million for an unneeded parking garage, bank deal, etc.). It is time to think about recalling this mayor before more damage is done, even though we cannot correct the damage that's already been done.
Miklos Bognar Sr. East Brunswick
