Spotswood's odd/even water restrictions effective next week

SPOTSWOOD - The borough's odd/even water restrictions will take effect May 1 and continue through Sept. 15.

The restrictions, included in a borough ordinance, are designed to ensure that the borough can supply adequate water during peak demand periods.

Residents whose home has an odd-numbered street address may only use water outside on odd dates, and water can only be used externally at even-number homes on even dates.

Some of the uses targeted by the ordinance include watering a lawn or landscaping, washing a car, filling a swimming pool and cleaning property. An exception is made, however, for newly installed or planted lawns or shrubbery, which is permitted for 45 days after planting.

On those dates when watering a lawn is permitted, the watering cannot exceed more than 45 minutes per area, the ordinance states.
