March 29-April 5

+ Book Sale, sponsored by the Spotswood Public Library, during regular library hours, at the library, 548 Main St. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, audiocassettes, VHS videos. Paperbacks sell for 50 cents each or three for $1, hardcovers for 75 cents and up, VHS videos for $1. "All-You-Can-Carry for $5" on April 3, 4, 5. All sales final. March 30

+ Lenten Fish Fry, sponsored by St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River, 5-7 p.m., at St. Mary's School cafeteria, Jackson Street, South River. Dinner includes fish, French fries, coleslaw, bread, dessert, coffee, tea. Cost per dinner is $10 for adults, $3 for youngsters under age 12. Children's macaroni-and-cheese dinners: $3.

March 30 & April 6

+ Lenten Fish-Fry Dinners, sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Clark Moetz Post No. 2319, Milltown and North Brunswick, 5-8 p.m., at the post home, 45 Broad St., Milltown. Cost is $9 at the door. + Fish-Fry Dinners, sponsored by Jamesburg Elks Lodge No. 2180, at the Elks lodge, 74 W. Railroad Ave. Dinners include broiled or fried seafood, salad bar, dessert. Takeout orders available. (732) 521-2180.

+ Lenten Fish-Fry Dinners, sponsored by Our Lady of Victory Columbiettes, 4:30-7 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Victorian Hall, 775 Washington Road, Parlin section of Sayreville. Broiled- or fried-fish dinners, salad bar, dessert. Takeouts available. No telephone orders.

+ Spring Craft Show, sponsored by Spotswood Kids Play, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Schoenly School, Kane Ave., Spotswood. Crafts and home vendors including Party Lite, Simply Tasteful, Avon, Home Interiors. Breakfast, lunch available for purchase; a donated item for the event's bake sale would be appreciated. Proceeds will go directly to Spotswood Kids Play, Appleby Playground Project Restoration. + Huge Yard Sale, sponsored by the Appleby Drama Club, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the cafetorium at Spotswood High School, Summerhill Road. Proceeds fund costumes, sets, sound for the upcoming Appleby School fifth-grade production of "Once on This Island - Junior Version" set for April 12-14. Donations for the sale accepted from 3-6 p.m. on March 30 in the high school cafetorium.

+ Feast of Fools Celebration Concert, featuring bands including The Wannabes, Legion Brothers and Fillmore Daze, showcasing music of the '60s and '70s, to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 7 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m., at South River Knights of Columbus Hall, 88 Jackson St. Concert named to mark April Fools Day (April 1, the day after the concert). March 31 & Saturdays ongoing

+ Organic Fertilizer and Cleaning-Material Sale, featuring chemical-free products, sponsored by the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturdays ongoing, at the group's headquarters building, 85 Washington Ave., Milltown. The nonprofit partnership, dedicated to the protection of the Lawrence Brook Watershed, encourages area residents to avoid the use of toxic lawn and garden products and cleaning liquids. April 1
