Gun fired in bank robbery

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Police and federal agents are seeking information regarding a March 16 bank robbery in the township.

At around 2:45 p.m., three people entered the Bank of America on Summerfield Boulevard demanding money, with two of them then vaulting over the counter. One of the suspects fired a handgun into the glass partition, causing it to shatter. A nearby teller was truck in the face by a bullet fragment as a result.

The trio then fled with a currently undetermined amount of cash.

Investigators from the FBI, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and the South Brunswick Police Department are examining the details of the case. According to Detective Jim Ryan, of the South Brunswick police, authorities are looking at surveillance tapes and canvassing the area looking for witnesses.

"We're still following a lot of leads," said Ryan.

Police are asking for any witnesses to call Detective Chris Giampietro at the South Brunswick Police Department at (732) 329-4646. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
