E.B. schools schedule kindergarten sign-ups

East Brunswick public schools will hold kindergarten registration March 6-9 for the 2007-08 school year.

Children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 31, 2007, are eligible for admission to kindergarten in September.

Daytime registration will be held in all district elementary schools. Residents may call the transportation office at (732) 613-6740 to find out the name of the school in their neighborhood. Registering at a particular school, however, does not guarantee that a child will be placed in that school.

Registration will be held at all district elementary schools from 2:15-4 p.m. on March 6 for students whose last names begin with the letters A-I, March 7 for those whose last names start with letters J-Q, and March 8 for last names R-Z. Sign-ups also are set for 5-7 p.m. on March 6 at Central, Chittick and Warnsdorfer schools; March 7 at Frost, Irwin, Lawrence Brook and Memorial schools; and March 8 at Bowne-Munro. Parents must follow the alphabetical schedule in order to register their children.

Youngsters who will be 6 years old by Oct. 31, 2007, or who have completed a full year of kindergarten instruction at a private kindergarten, are eligible to register for September admission to first grade. Registration for new first-graders will be held in all elementary schools from 9:30-11 a.m. and 1:30-3 p.m. on March 28.

The child's original (raised-seal) birth certificate, immunization records and proof of physical examination completed within 365 days prior to the start of school by a certified physician, along with proof of residency, are required at registration.
