Accident closes 2 lanes of Rt. 18

EAST BRUNSWICK - The center and left lanes of Route 18 northbound were closed for about one hour last Thursday following a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Cindy Way.

The accident, reported at 12:52 p.m., was caused when a 2000 International truck, driven by 38-year-old John Sulva, of Bound Brook, ran into the rear of a tractor trailer stopped on Route 18 for a red light.

The 2007 International tractor trailer, being operated by John Tackett, 50, of Flemington, was then pushed into the rear of a third vehicle that was also stopped for the red light. The third vehicle was a 2001 Toyota driven by 20-year-old Jason Alencewicz of Tinton Falls.

Both trucks had to be towed from the scene, but the Toyota was able to be driven away.

Tackett was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, with a complaint of back pain. The other drivers reported no injuries.

Sulva was issued a careless driving summons.
