New Jersey high school reform focus of meeting at EBHS

EAST BRUNSWICK - The New Jersey High School Redesign Steering Committee will hold a meeting for parents, community members and educators at East Brunswick High School Jan. 23 to discuss statewide high school reform.

The steering committee, composed of leaders in education and business from New Jersey, has scheduled five meetings throughout the state, including this one. A variety of topics relating to the future of New Jersey's high schools will be discussed at the meeting, including globalization and technological advances, required skills for students entering the workforce or going on to further education, how New Jersey students measure up, and action steps to improve the quality of the high school experience.

The committee will use feedback from the meeting to create a report with recommendations to present to education policy and decision makers.

Expected to be present are state Department of Education Commissioner Lucille Davy, New Jersey Education Association President Joyce Powell, Montclair State University President Susan Cole, New Jersey School Boards Association Executive Director Edwina Lee, New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association Executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti, and representatives of several other organizations.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. in the auditorium of the high school, which is located on Cranbury Road.
