Obituaries Donna L. Hucker Kwiatek Mrs. Kwiatek, 62, of East Brunswick, fomerly of Edison, died Nov. 13, 2006, in Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Edward Hucker, and by her first husband, Angelo Cutrone Jr. Surviving are her husband, Walter Kwiatek; a son, Angelo Cutrone III, and a daughter and son-on-law, Kimberly and Vincent Totka; a stepson, Ken Kwiatek; a stepdaughter, Alisha DeJesus; two sisters, Linda Adams and Beverly Koblis; two brothers, Frank and Edward Hucker; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Phyllis Stapleton Chartier Mrs. Chartier, 71, of South River, died Nov. 17, 2006, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement in 2003, she was a cafeteria manager with the East Brunswick school district for 14 years. Her husband, Paul Chartier, died in 2001, and a son, Paul J. Chartier, died in 1997. Surviving are four sons, Richard Chartier of Sayreville, Michael Chartier of Matawan, John Chartier of Dallas, Ga., and Laurence Chartier of South River; two daughters, Judiann Chartier and Suzette Chartier Vignapiano, both of South River; a brother, John Stapleton of East Brunswick; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Mass was offered at St. Mary's Church, South River. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
Robert Smalley Mr. Smalley, 89, of East Brunswick, died Nov. 13, 2006, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was a sales manager for 41 years with Laffin Chevrolet, South River. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Critelli Smalley; a son, Robert Smalley of Florida; two daughters, Joyce Flanagan of South River and Jeanne McDowell of Connecticut; four sisters, Martha Eichert, Carol Chernowetz, Dorothy Vorhees and Meta Kellenberger; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
John Stanley Banks Mr. Banks, 83, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 14, 2006, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are his wife, Ann Banks; two daughters, Kem Benneman of South River and Ruth Benneman of New Brunswick; two sons, Stanley Shon Banks Fenn of Virginia and Ray Deas of New York; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Interment was private.
William Gallagher Mr. Gallagher, 77, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Nov. 14, 2006, in Old Bridge Manor. Surviving are his wife, L. Dorothy Lynch Gallagher; two sons, Kenneth of Queens, N.Y., and Brendan of the Somerset section of Franklin; a daughter, Gail Hale of Damascus, Md.; a sister, Nan Turner of Portsmouth, N.H.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Bernadette's Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Joseph F. Ejk Mr. Ejk, 90, of South River, died Nov. 16, 2006, at home. Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed as a machinist with Philip H. Buerlhe Inc., East Brunswick, where he worked for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, Edna Uler Ejk; a son, Robert of South River; a daughter, Joan Loonen of Weert, The Netherlands; and three grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary's Church, South River. Cremation was private. Catherine Zambito D'Apolito Mrs. D'Apolito, 85, of Matawan, died Nov. 16, 2006, in Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she was employed as a registered nurse with the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, Red Bank, where she worked for several years. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew, in 1971, and by a grandson, Matthew David D'Apolito, in 1977. Surviving are a son, Frank D'Apolito of Matawan; a daughter, Josephine Salvatore, also of Matawan; two brothers, Louis Zambito of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Paul Zambito of the Parlin section of Sayreville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Joseph's Church, Keyport. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Katherine Cecilia Carroll Georgie Mrs. Georgie, 83, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 15, 2006, in Park Place Center, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Georgie; two daughters, Mary Ellen Mottola of Newton and Carol Ann Donchin of Barnegat; and two brothers, James Carroll of Stamford, Conn., and Charles Carroll of Ridgefield, Conn. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.
Bernard V. "Bud" Gallagher Mr. Gallagher, 69, of East Freetown, N.Y., formerly of Jamesburg, died Nov. 15 at home. Prior to his retirement, he was a farmer and truck driver. Surviving are his wife, Frances Gallagher; three sons, Ray Gallagher of Hightstown, Richard Gallagher of Marathon, N.Y., and Bill Gallagher of Monroe; four daughters, Bernardette Costa of Franconia, N.H., Rebecca Archer of Hightstown, Cindy James of Freetown and Cathy Dobromilsky of Jamesburg; a brother, Dan Gallagher of Cook, Minn.; five sisters, Ann Rackmyer of Jamesburg, Ruth Vislosky of Spotswood, Maxine Leming of the Hamilton Square section of Hamilton, Phyllis Kiehn of Manchester and Dot Shafto of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Betty Simpson of West Virginia; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills section of Pemberton. Arrangements were under the direction of A.C. Baker and Nichols Funeral Home, Whitney Point, N.Y.
Mary Chach Zakrzewski Mrs. Zakrzewski, 82, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 14, 2006, in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Surviving are her husband, Alexander Zakrzewski; a sister, Helen Chach of Yonkers, N.Y.; and a brother, William Chach, also of Yonkers. A service was held at St. John's Orthodox Church, Perth Amboy. Interment was in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown, Pa.
Rose Girardi Fontana
Mrs. Fontana, 101, of North Brunswick, died Nov. 16, 2006, at Park Place Center, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Born in Jamaica, N.Y., she resided in Plainfield and New Brunswick prior to moving to North Brunswick in 1981. She was a seamstress for 45 years, most recently at C & K, New Brunswick, retiring in 1969. She was a communicant of and member of the Rosary Society and Golden Age Club at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, the North Brunswick Pioneers. She was predeceased by her first husband, Elpidio Sorbo in 1945; her husband, Emanuele V. Fontana in 1981; and a son, Francis P. Sorbo in 1998. She is survived by a son, Cosmo A. Sorbo of Bridgewater; a brother, Dominick Girardi of Babylon, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment was at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge. |
