EAST BRUNSWICK - The four members of the township rescue squad, who recently sought pledges for their participation in the New York City Marathon, were able to successfully complete the 26-2 mile race.
Rebecca Karp finished in 5:22:45; while Scott Pasichow, David Applbaum and Heather Kopsco also completed the trek, finishing within one minute of each other.
Pasichow and Kopsco are both lieutenants with the rescue squad.
The four EMTs ran to help finance a new ambulance that will replace one of the two 16-year-old vehicles. They have raised more than $1,000 thus far.
Donations can still be made on the Web site, www.ebrs.org, or by sending a check to the East Brunswick Rescue Squad, 346 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, 08816.
The squad relies entirely on donations to fund its operation.
"We are really proud of these four members of our squad," said Mary Kerslake, a squad member who handles public relations. "We're proud of how they took the initiative into their own hands and achieved this remarkable feat. So far, they have raised a little over $1,000, and are hopeful more people will donate to help get the new ambulance."
