Police arrest man after chase from shoe store

EAST BRUNSWICK - Police chased and caught a man after he allegedly broke into Fash-n-Fit Shoes on Route 18 early yesterday.

The suspect, Fitim Bitic, 40, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, was charged with burglary and resisting arrest.

A resident in the neighborhood called police at 1:05 a.m. to report hearing the sound of breaking glass. The resident investigated further and reported seeing a man crawl through the basement window of the business and lighting up the interior of the building with a lighter or flashlight.

Responding police officers checked the building and encountered a man fleeing from the back porch of the business.

Police chased the man on foot through the adjacent properties and eventually found him hiding in the woods to the rear of 209 Route 18.

Bitic was taken into custody, processed and committed to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, in lieu of $50,000 bail.
