+ Dvds4troops Collection, to benefit U.S. troops overseas, sponsored by the Spotswood High School History Club. DVDs and music CDs may be dropped off at the high school, Summerhill Road, in care of Frank Yusko, club adviser. Dvds4troops, begun by Iraqi Freedom veteran Sgt. Event concludes at 7 p.m. Barbecue and entertainment featuring Spike Ivory and Friends, raffles, prizes, 50/50s, at the American Legion hall. Cost is $15 per rider for Poker Run participants, $10 to attend barbecue and concert only. Children under age 12 admitted free of charge. Marine Sgt. Eddie Ryan was shot in the head multiple times while on a rooftop in Al Quaim, Iraq, on April 13, 2005. His home will require major renovations in order to meet his needs. + Garage Sale, to benefit the family of Joe Kerschner, a 36-year-old East Brunswick resident who is fighting chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 10 Peach Orchard Drive, East Brunswick, off Ryders Lane, across from St. Bartholomew's Church. Donations also sought for the Cans for Joe Collection that is ongoing throughout East Brunswick. Empty cans, which will be brought to the recycling center for extra cash, may be dropped off at the garage sale.

Oct. 1

+ Tricky Tray, sponsored by the Friends of John Droppa, doors open at 2 p.m., event begins at 4 p.m., at Holy Trinity Parish Center, Manalapan Road, Helmetta. Droppa, a postal worker in Monroe, is battling cancer. All proceeds go to the family to help defray costs incurred due to Droppa's illness. Donation is $10; includes a sheet of tickets, coffee, cake. + Ride, Walk and Stroll for Rett Syndrome, a 7- to 61-mile bike-a-thon and 1-mile walk/stroll, ride begins at 8 a.m., 1-mile walk and stroll starts at 11 a.m., at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown.
