Woman jailed in alleged stabbing at Route 18 motel EAST BRUNSWICK - A New Brunswick woman is accused of stabbing a man with a butcher knife during a dispute at the Studio 6 motel last week, then running to the front desk naked and holding the knife, according to police. Police responded to the Route 18 motel after a worker called to report an individual at the front desk with a knife, shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival, officers learned that 36-year-old Alfredia Spragling had run from her room to the front desk area. She was found by a clerk nude and holding a butcher-style knife, according to police. The clerk was able to get Spragling to put the knife down. Shortly thereafter, 39-year-old Carlton Brathwaite, also of New Brunswick, came to the front desk with two knife wounds. At this time, police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. Investigators believe that the stabbing was the result of some type of domestic dispute between the two participants, according to police. There was no information as to what the dispute was about. Medical personnel described Brathwaite's wounds as superficial and not life threatening. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, for treatment of his injuries. Spragling was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, on $75,000 bail.
