Watershed Partnership bike tour Sept. 17

The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership will sponsor a 26-mile bicycle tour of the Lawrence Brook Watershed Sept. 17 at 8:45 a.m. beginning at East Brunswick Curriculum Center/McGuiness School, Hardenberg Lane and Dunhams Corner Road.

The ride has optional add-on loops and will explore the natural and historical features of the area. The route is leader-led or at the rider's pace, with cue sheets, maps and signage provided. Helmets are required. Snacks and a "sag wagon" will be provided.

Evening at Subway to aid MTHS Music

The Monroe Township High School (MTHS) Music Parents will sponsor a Family Dine-In or Takeout Night from 4-7 p.m. on Sept. 20 at Subway, 428 Main St., Spotswood, next to Dunkin' Donuts.

Diners should tell their server they are at the restaurant to support MTHS Music. Subway will donate a portion of the evening's proceeds to the school.

Credit will not be given for menu specials or value meals or if coupons are used.

Milltown Lions Club plans Spaghetti Dinner

The Milltown Lions Club will sponsor a Spaghetti Dinner from 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Milltown Senior Citizens Center, Violet Terrace.

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $2 for children. The event will feature a cash bar. Wine, beer and soft drinks will be available.

Proceeds will benefit the visually impaired.

Chamber of Commerce schedules breakfast

The Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce will host an Employer Legislative Committee Breakfast beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 19 at the Sheraton Edison Hotel, Raritan Center Parkway.

The event will feature a buffet breakfast and networking. Cost is $20 for members and nonmembers.

Club seeks DVDs and CDs for troops overseas

The Spotswood High School History Club is conducting a fall drive for the dvds4troops program. New and used DVDs and music CDs may be dropped off through the end of October at the high school, Summerhill Road, in care of Frank Yusko, club adviser.

The dvds4troops effort, begun by Iraqi Freedom veteran Sgt. Kevin Johnson, has established film and music libraries throughout the war zone. For more information, log on to the project Web site at www.dvds 4troops.org.

Youngsters invited to Cub Scout recruitment

Cub Scout Pack No. 3, Monroe, will hold a Recruitment Night at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 in the cafeteria at Mill Lake School, 115 Monmouth Road, Monroe.

Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer boating course

Coast Guard Flotilla Auxiliary 2-1, 167 Main St., Sayreville, will offer and eight-lesson "America's Boating Course" from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on four Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 18-27. Cost is $50, including textbook. A New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course. Ride, walk, stroll to aid Rett syndrome panel

The 2006 Ride, Walk and Stroll for Rett Syndrome, a 7- to 61-mile bike-a-thon and 1-mile walk/stroll, is planned for Oct. 1 at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. The ride will begin at 8 a.m.; the 1-mile walk and stroll will start at 11 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit the International Rett Syndrome Association.

Monroe Library Friends to hold Sept. 20 meeting

The Friends of the Monroe Township Public Library will host its annual meeting Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the library, 4 Municipal Plaza.

Library director Irene Goldberg will be in attendance to present the facility's expansion plans, which include larger sections in the adult, children's, circulation and staff areas.

Clergywoman/author to speak at E.B. Library

Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, the award-winning religious broadcaster, clergywoman and author, will offer a presentation titled "Finding the Spiritual in the Ordinary" at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

Crafton, a Metuchen-based Episcopal priest, will autograph copies of her book, which will be offered for sale following the program. Her appearance is part of the library's Meet the Author series, sponsored by the Friends of the East Brunswick Library. Admission is free of charge. 'Avoda' art exhibit opens at New Bruns. temple

Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, 222 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick, will host "Avoda: Objects of the Spirit" through Nov. 27.

The traveling exhibit consists of 42 pieces of Jewish ceremonial art created by painter and sculptor Tobi Kahn. Kahn cofounded The Avoda Institute in 1999 to promote the connection between the arts and religion. His works have been shown in approximately 70 museums.

Exhibit hours are Monday-Wednesday from noon to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (732) 545-6484.

to be topic at meeting

The East Brunswick Chapter of Hadassah will present An Evening With June Walker, Hadassah national president, at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane.

Walker, who recently returned from Israel, will speak about the war with Hezbollah and Hadassah's role in addressing the crisis. She will share the latest information on Israel's struggle against terrorism.

Peace activist to offer

observations on Iran

The Monroe Township Chapter of the National Coalition for Peace Action will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 18 in the courtroom of the Monroe Township Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Plaza, off Perrineville Road.

Melissa Van, executive director of Peace Action New York, will provide observations on her recent visit to Iran.

'Babes in Toyland'

auditions scheduled

The Sayreville Main Street Theater Company will hold auditions for its upcoming holiday show, "Babes In Toyland," at 7 p.m. on Sept 18 and 19 in the theater space, Garden Friends, 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville.

All roles are open. Producers are looking for individuals ages 17 and up and for children ages 9 and up. Those who are auditioning for the roles of Alan, Mary and the master toy maker should be prepared to sing 18 bars of a ballad. All others should sing an up-tempo character song. All participants should come prepared to dance.

The Milltown Municipal Alliance will sponsor a Movie Under the Stars Night featuring the 1968 G-rated film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Borough Park, Violet Terrace. Rain date is Sept. 16.

The Spotswood Drug and Alcohol Alliance sixth annual Spotswood Family Day is set for noon to 4 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Spotswood High School, Summerhill Road.
