Sept. 8-16

+ Book Sale, during regular hours, at the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St. "All-You-Can-Carry-for-$5 Sale" set for last two days of the event, Sept. 15 and 16. All sales final. Proceeds benefit the library and its programs. (732) 251-1515.

Sept. 8 & Fridays through Oct. 20

+ Cruise Nights/Car Show, to benefit the Sayreville Brain Injured Children Association, sponsored by the Just Us Cruisers classic car club, 6-9 p.m., at the Paramount Diner, Route 35, South Amboy/Sayreville. Family-oriented events featuring more than 50 antique and classic cars from across the tri-state area. Trophies; games; music from the '50s, '60s, '70s. + Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Game, to benefit Alison Mee, a 7-year-old East Brunswick youngster who is suffering from aplastic anemia, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Bicentennial Park, Hardenburg Lane, East Brunswick. Members of East Brunswick Policemen's Benevolent Association No. 145 vs. members of East Brunswick fire companies. All proceeds go to Alison. Sept. 10

+ Car Wash, sponsored by the South River High School Cheerleaders, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Elks Lodge No. 2033, Main Street, South River. Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for vans and trucks. Proceeds help defer the cost of the cheerleaders' sneakers and uniforms.
