Community Bulletin Board The ninth annual Pride in Milltown Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 in Borough Park, JFK Boulevard and Violet Terrace, next to the community pool. Rain date is Oct. 8. The event, sponsored by the Milltown Revitalization Committee, is designed to promote community spirit and awareness of local businesses and service organizations. Residents invited to sell at Jamesburg Yard Sale Jamesburg residents will sell their "treasures" during the annual Jamesburg Fall Communitywide Yard Sale scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept 16. The event, which will take place rain or shine, is co-sponsored by the borough of Jamesburg and the Jamesburg Civic Association. Residents may sell in their own yards or rent table space at Buckelew Park. There is a $2 registration for all residential yard-sale participants. The fee will help cover the cost of advertising, signs and maps. All registered home addresses will be listed on a yard-sale flier/map that will be distributed throughout Jamesburg prior to the sale. The fee at Buckelew Park is $12 ($2 registration fee, $10 table/space fee). The table/space fee benefits the Jamesburg Historical Association. Discussion to focus on full ADA compliance The Monday Morning Advocacy Network of Middlesex County will hold its next meeting from 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 18 in conference room 3 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center Drive Topic will be "How We Can Make Middlesex County Fully and Completely Accessible." Issues to be discussed will include how to work with managers and landlords in making stores and other businesses accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by removing barriers; addressing and working with code-enforcement officers and ADA coordinators; and working against "excuses" that businesses make to hinder making accommodations. Other topics, including legislative updates and updates on accessible parking, also will be be discussed. Guest speakers will be announced. Plans will be outlined for a contest, sponsored by the Monday Morning Project, to find the most accessible county. Upcoming accessibility tours will be discussed. Alborada to perform in 'Sephardic Connection' The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission will present the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre in a new production of "The Sephardic Connection: The Story of the Spanish Jews" at 3 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Richard P. Marasco Center for the Performing Arts, Monroe Township High School, Perrineville Road. The performance will celebrate the cross-cultural influences of the Sephardic Jewish culture and Spain, Morocco and Turkey. The Sephardim, a Jewish population indigenous to Spain in the Middle Ages, made many contributions to Spanish music, dance, architecture, literature and culture. In 1492 the group left to reside in Turkey, Morocco and other countries. Accompanied by the Daughters of Sophia Tribal Dance Troupe, The Noga Group (Sephardic musicians), Middle Eastern dancer Ramsey and cantorial singer Laurie Fechter, the Alborada dancers will explore the links between the Spanish Sephardim and Sephardic Jewish cultures elsewhere. Monroe to honor 9/11 victims and families The township of Monroe will host a 9/11 Community Candlelight Memorial Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Memorial Tree Park, Prospect Plains and Half Acre roads. Clergy and lay people of all faiths will take part in prayer, speeches and song to honor the individuals who died during the 9/11 attacks and their families. The tree park is the site of the Sept. 11 Memorial, dedicated in 2002, which bears the names of Monroe families touched by the tragedy. Admission is free of charge. The community is invited to attend. Parking will be available along Prospect Plains Road. Handicapped parking will be available in the tree-park parking lot. The American Flag Memorial will display 2,977 flags in remembrance of those who perished on 9/11. The display will be open to the public from Sept. 8-12. Registration slated for new, returning artists The Suburban Artists Guild of Central New Jersey (SAG) will hold open registration for old and new members at a meeting set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.
