Aug. 22 + Art Activity, to benefit Special Strides Therapeutic Riding Center for children with special needs, Congress Hill Farm, Monroe, sponsored by Around the Corner Art Center, 4:30-6 p.m., at the art center, 290 Mounts Corner Drive, in back of Walgreens shopping center, Route 537, Freehold (across from Moore's Tavern). Event will help raise money for the Steven Werthan Scholarship Fund. Youngsters create paintings to be auctioned off on Oct. 14 at the seventh annual Special Strides Benefit Barn Dance. More than 50 special-needs children come to receive therapy at Special Strides, a nonprofit center dedicated to improving the lives of children with developmental disabilities and physical handicaps. Hippotherapy, or horse therapy, is used as a tool to elicit change and rehabilitation as part of a physical-therapy and occupational-therapy program for children with autism, cerebral palsy, other sensory and motor conditions.
