• Food Drive, to benefit Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen, New Brunswick, sponsored by Girl Scout Cadette Troop No. 1918, Milltown. Elijah’s Promise serves homeless and needy families in the area. Sept. 17

• Giant Yard Sale, sponsored by The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of East Brunswick, to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the parking lot at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Proceeds will be sent to the society’s national office in St. Louis and will be distributed to areas around the country to which hurricane victims have been relocated. • Special Strides Therapeutic Riding Center Fund-raiser, 7 p.m., at Congress Hill Farm, 118 Federal Road, Monroe. Special Strides Riding Center, Monroe, provides specialized therapy for special-needs youngsters, using horses as a strategy to achieve neurodevelopmental goals.
