Area teen takes part in

young leaders seminar

Mallory Rachel Wood of Milltown, a junior at Spotswood High School, was selected to participate in The Gillette Co., Economics for Leaders program held recently at the University of Delaware, Newark.

Mallory was one of only 30 students from around the country who were accepted into the program, which is sponsored by the Gillette Co., in partnership with the Foundation for Teaching Economics, a Davis, Calif., nonprofit foundation. All participating students were chosen because they demonstrated leadership potential.

The weeklong course combined leadership training and economics. During the program, students learned an economic way of thinking about human behavior and experienced the interaction of different leadership styles within a group.

The aim of the program is for participants to develop a clearer insight into how the world works, knowledge that should be especially helpful to those aspiring to leadership positions. The basis is that economics education for future leaders is important because the cost of bad or misdirected public policies can be enormous.
