Obituaries

John J. Besso

Mr. Besso, 81, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died July 26 at home. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; four children, Marge McCurdy of Sayreville, John of Spotswood, Kathleen Small of Old Bridge and James of the Morganville section of Marlboro; a brother, Harold of West Paterson; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Entombment was in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Marlboro.

Leonard Kubinski

Mr. Kubinski, 66, of Monroe, formerly of East Brunswick, died Aug. 5 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Jamison Kubinski; a son, Steven Kubinski of Old Bridge; a daughter, Lynn Hsiao of West Windsor; a sister, Theresa Kubinski of the Mercerville section of Hamilton; and four granddaughters. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Barbara Stankowitz Reyes

Mrs. Reyes, 64, of Aberdeen, formerly of Old Bridge, died Aug. 9 in Victoria House, Aberdeen. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Stankowitz, in 1996, and by her second husband, John Reyes, in 1990. Surviving are three sons, Anthony Stankowitz of Monroe, Robert Stankowitz of Old Bridge and John Reyes of South Amboy; three daughters, Sandra Forgione of Bedminster and Tina Stankowitz and Jessica Reyes, both of South Amboy; three brothers, Raymond Goddard of Sayreville, William Goddard of Plainfield and Robert Goddard of Independence, Va.; two sisters, Carol Grunden of Freehold and Helen Dill of Holmdel; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to The Hyacinth Foundation, 317 George St., Suite 203, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

Edna Lemka Yeager

Mrs. Yeager, 87, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Aug. 7 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was employed as a waitress and cook at the Sayreville Bar, where she worked for more than 30 years. She had also worked at the Sunny Side Up restaurant and the Polonaise catering hall, both Sayreville. Surviving are her companion, Raymond James Wanson of Parlin; two daughters, Geraldine Viau of Englishtown and Joann Yeager of Horsham, Pa.; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Margaret I. Katona Kollar

Mrs. Kollar, 81, of East Brunswick, died Aug. 16 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. She was a communicant of St. Mary Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church, South River. She was predeceased by her husband, John Kollar, in 2003; three sisters, Irene Rady, Helen Witting and Mary Kath; and three brothers, John, Albert and Stephen Katona. Mrs. Kollar is survived by a brother and sister, Michael Katona and Anna Molinich, both of East Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Aug. 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Aug. 19 at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Hopelawn.

Ruth E. Petty

Mrs. Petty, 80, of Morganton, N.C., died Aug. 11 at Grace Hospital, Morganton. Born in Elizabeth, she resided in Westfield, Milltown and Texas before moving to Morganton 10 years ago. Mrs. Petty was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth E. Petty, in 1987; and a daughter, Evelyn Krolik, in 2004. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth and Gerald Petty, of Morganton; three daughters, Trudy Gallagher of Jamesburg, Libby Fugman of Lakewood, and Linda Perkins of Morganton; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Burial took place at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. The Crabiel Home for Funerals, Milltown, was in charge of arrangements.
