Joanna Gierla Chmiel

Mrs. Chmiel, 63, of East Brunswick, died July 18 in Scranton, Pa. Surviving are her husband, Francis Chmiel; four daughters, Eleanor Schaff and Deborah Chmiel, both of East Brunswick, Karen McKinney of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Janice Pfuhl of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, Walter Gierla of Mountainside; and six grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

William C. Haacker

Mr. Haacker, of East Brunswick, died July 18 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. A certified public accountant, he most recently worked for North American Reiss Co., Englishtown. His wife, Enid F., died in 2004, and a son, Richard M., died in 1993. Surviving are three sons, William Lee of Oakhurst, David Scott, M.D., of Secaucus and Paul Frederick of East Brunswick; a brother, Lee P. Haacker, M.D., of Williamsburg, Va., and Washington, D.C.; and a grandson. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Foundation for AIDS Research, 120 Wall St., New York, NY 10005-3902.

Ercole DiFrancesco

Mr. DiFrancesco, 83, of Spotswood, died July 25 in Cranbury Care Center. His wife, Rose DiFrancesco, died in 1973. Surviving are a son, Paul DiFrancesco of Monroe; a daughter, Angela Colaneri of Spotswood; two brothers, Angelo DiFrancesco and Alfred DiFrancesco, both of Spotswood; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass is planned for 10:15 a.m. on July 28 at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment will follow in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Frederick Wolfe Kamis

Mr. Kamis, 62, of Boca Raton, Fla., died July 23 in Boca Raton. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard Kamis. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Matthew Rosenfield of Delray Beach, Fla.; a son, Josh Kamis of East Brunswick; two daughters, Daniella Kamis-Brown of East Brunswick and Shoshana Dichter of Livingston; two brothers, Aaron Kamis of Switzerland and Richard Kamis of Voorhees; and six grandchildren. Services were held at East Brunswick Jewish Center. Interment was in Beth Abraham Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Eleanor A. Schleuter

Mrs. Schleuter, 76, of Old Bridge, died July 11 at home. She was a former teacher’s aide at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Old Bridge. Surviving are her husband, Bernard; two sons, Robert of Howell and James of North Brunswick; three daughters, Cathy Capozzi of Middletown, Ginger Roman of Cream Ridge and Susan Donnelly of East Brunswick; two sisters, Theresa Simunek of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and Barbara Conboy of Hicksville, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

John T. Lupco

Mr. Lupco, 42, of Hillsborough, formerly of East Brunswick, died July 23 of injuries sustained in a car-racing accident at Atco Raceway, Atco section of Waterford. He was the owner of Highline Automotive, South Brunswick. His father, John M. Lupco, died in 2000. Surviving are his wife, Marie Leepin Lupco; a daughter, Saige, at home; his mother, Theresa Midas Lupco of East Brunswick; and three sisters, Carol Genito of North Brunswick, Sandra Haremza of Eastampton and Susan Micale of Spotswood. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Neshanic Cemetery, Neshanic section of Branchburg.

Ethel M. Newland Caputo

Mrs. Caputo, 92, formerly of Spotswood, died July 22 in Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Her husband, Emil, died in 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Emerita Caputo of Elkridge, Md., and Geraldine Manga of Spotswood; two brothers, Robert Newland of Clearwater, Fla., and David Newland of Seaford, N.Y.; a sister, Rosemary Cook of Hazlet; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Church, Helmetta. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.

Sabina Iwanski

Mrs. Iwanski, 81, of North Brunswick, formerly of South River, died July 21 at home. She was employed at Louis Lefkowitz, New Brunswick and Milltown, for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Surviving are her husband, Wincenty Iwanski; a son, Józef Iwanski of North Brunswick; a daughter, Terry Curley of Freehold; a brother, Józef Szewczak of New Brunswick; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Patricia Howarth Muraszko

Mrs. Muraszko, 64, of East Brunswick, died July 22 at home. She was a crossing guard in South River for 17 years. Surviving are her husband, Stanley; a son, Stanley of Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Maryanne Schroeck of the Toms River section of Dover; four brothers, Joseph Howarth of North Brunswick, Richard Howarth of Reading, Pa., Raymond Howarth of East Brunswick and Henry Howarth of South River; four sisters, Rosemary Mazur and Barbara Guina, both of East Brunswick, Catherine Hines of Michigan and Claire Gray of North Brunswick; and a grandson. Services were private. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.

Sally Pollack Schaeffer

Mrs. Schaeffer, 86, of Matawan, formerly of East Brunswick, died July 15 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Arthur Charles Schaeffer, died in 1980. Surviving are a son, Ross Schaeffer of Highland Park; a daughter, Yannette Patsiner of Old Bridge; a brother and sister, Harry Pollack and Hannah Smluck, both of Florida; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service and interment were held at Anshe Emeth Cemetery, East Brunswick. Arrangements were under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick.

Anne Baumann Bandics

Mrs. Bandics, 78, of East Brunswick, formerly of Metuchen, died June 4 in Tucson Medical Center, Tucson, Ariz. Her husband, Richard, died in 1997. Surviving are a son, Rick Bandics of Tucson; a daughter, Mary Anne Holmes; a brother, Kenneth Baumann of Vienna, Va.; a granddaughter, Kerri Bandics of San Francisco; and five nieces. A memorial service will be held from 1-3 p.m. on July 30 at Brunswick Memorial Home, Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

Joanna Sawicki LaFerrara

Mrs. LaFerrara, 71, of Seaside Park, formerly of South River, died July 19. Surviving are four children, Michael, Denise, Tami and Anthony; a sister, Edna Medvetz of Carteret; and 10 grandchildren, Nicole, Steven, Michael, Russell, Tony, Erica, Tara, Gina, Anthony and Dominique. A private memorial service was held. Arrangements were under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
