Fund-raisers

May 26

• Cell phone collection and empty inkjet or laser computer cartridge collection, both sponsored by the Spotswood High School Band. Old cell phones will be sent to women’s shelters and to troops stationed overseas. Phones need not be in working condition or have chargers or batteries. Collection boxes are located at the high school, Memorial School and KrisKell Creations Hair Salon, all Summerhill Road; Schoenly School, Kane Avenue; the Spotswood Public Library, Spotswood Post Office and Kearny Bank, all Main Street. The band continues to participate in a Kash for Kids fund-raising program that pays the group $2 for each empty inkjet or laser computer cartridge collected. May 28

• Memorial Day Picnic, sponsored by South River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1451, noon to 7 p.m., on the grounds at the post home, 31 Reid St. Music by Pulse, beer, soda, hot dogs, hamburgers, horseshoe contest, clown, 50/50. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children. (732) 254-9834.

May 28 & 29

• Giant Yard Sale and Bazaar, sponsored by Darul Arqam School, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the school, 8 Thomas St., South River. Food items. (732) 238-0038.

June 1

• Golf Outing, sponsored by the Friends of the Men’s Club of Congregation Anshe Emeth, South River, registration from 7-10 a.m., tee-off times 8-11 a.m., Bunker Hill Golf Club, Griggstown section of Franklin. Cost is $95; includes breakfast, lunch, dinner. Call Bob Scherzer at (732) 238-1190.

June 3

• Scramble (tricky tray), sponsored by the Columbiettes of Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council No. 4907, doors open at 6 p.m., event begins at 8 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Crescent Avenue, Spotswood.
