The East Brunswick Grizzlies, a U13 Girls National Team, won their Flight at the 16th Annual Monroe Soccer Festival. The girls won their first game, 3-1, against the West Windsor Celtics. After playing to a 0-0 score in the first half the Grizzlies tallied three goals in the second half to put the game way. Goals were scored by Allison Rowan, off of a pass from Cristina Craig; Rosa Buffolino, from a feed by Lisa Quaglino; and Jamie LaGattuta, assisted by Rowan. In the second game, the Grizzlies took on the Monroe Monarchs. Allison Rowan took a pass from Cristina Craig and fought off the defender to put a shot past the Monarchs goalie to put the Grizzlies up 1-0 at the half. Monroe tied it up late in the second half, and the game finished in a 1-1 tie. At this point both teams proceeded to the Penalty Kick Pit to decide the game and first place with a shoot-out. The Grizzlies went up 1-0 when Gianna Cordasco put her shot past the Monroe goalie. At this point Rosa Buffolino took over the shoot-out. She stopped all five Monroe shots, including one heading for the right post which she reached out and knocked it down before it could get past her. After stopping the final Monroe shot giving the Grizzlies the 1-0 (1-1) win she was mobbed by her teammates. All of the Grizzlies played well in contributing to both victories.
