Building creates need for school construction

This open letter to the residents of East Brunswick is in response to the letter titled “Property and School Taxes Make for a Good Mix in East Brunswick” that appeared in the Nov. 24 Sentinel.

I am all for the schools in this town, and being a resident for 41 years and having parents who have been here for 53 years, I know we have reaped the benefits of all that East Brunswick has to offer — great schools, great recreation, police protection and a long list of other services that make us stand out as a great place to live.

I am all in favor of improving our schools. However, if we continue to build and build, all the additions and improvements will have to be addressed again and again.

I studied in portable classrooms in the 1970s, graduated in 1981 and attended college, and I have a great way of life due to my parents’ support and hard work. Has anyone heard of the School of Hard Knocks? I have, and if you do not stop, we will have a bigger problem, and the blue ribbons will fade.

Can’t we limit the people who move here? Can we make it like college admissions and put potential residents on a waiting list?

I will support the school budget. However, where will we be 10 years from now with the Golden Triangle, Dunhams Corner Road and the possibility of homes on the Sixth Street property?

I am well aware of the zoning of particular areas of the town. Some guidelines need to be set in place to continue to keep this town a premier place to live and prosper.
