Rescue squad needs more members I would like to respond to the letter to the editor titled “Where Has the Spotswood First Aid Squad Gone?” that appeared in the Nov. 11 issue of the Sentinel. I am a former resident of Spotswood and a former member of the Spotswood First Aid Squad, and I agree with the gentleman who wrote the letter. My husband was severely injured at his place of employment in Spotswood in July 2000, and Spotswood First Aid never showed up. He lost a large amount of blood and had to wait for Monroe to get there. By that time, it had been almost an hour. Your insurance will cover the expense, but there should be no reason for Monroe to come into town. I reapplied for the first aid squad in 2002 and was never called. I personally stopped there, asked about my application, and was told at the time that they did not need members. When the members of the squad turn down applicants, and the residents do not volunteer, this is what happens. I think that the residents of Spotswood need to step up to the plate. Volunteer and make a difference. The feeling you get from helping people is something that is unexplainable. Don’t let someone else suffer because there are not enough volunteers there. You can’t change the world by yourself, but making a difference is a start.
