Obituaries Lillian Perosa Salvaryn Mrs. Salvaryn, 76, of South River, died Oct. 26 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Stanley Salvaryn, died in 2000. Surviving are four sons, Robert Salvaryn of Brick, James Salvaryn of Vineland, David Salvaryn of Readington and Mark Salvaryn of East Brunswick; a sister, Margaret Skrok of the New Egypt section of Plumsted; and three grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Mildred Weller Moore Mrs. Moore, 84, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 29 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Perry J. Moore, died in 1998, and a daughter, Carol Bachmann, died in 1999. Surviving are a son, John J. Jensen of Monroe; two sisters, Shirley Combs of Helmetta and Lucille Powell of California; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick.
Christopher Roxbury Mr. Roxbury, 19, of Monroe, died Oct. 29 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his parents, Kenneth Roxbury and Donna Roxbury of Monroe; a brother, Patrick Roxbury, and a sister, Meagan Roxbury, both of Monroe; his grandparents, Dolores and Robert Roxbury; his stepmother, Toni Roxbury; a stepbrother, Scott; a stepsister, Stephanie; two uncles and an aunt. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was private.
Julia Kosa Kovacs Mrs. Kovacs, 80, of South River, died Oct. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement in 1964, she was a laboratory technician with Bristol-Myers Squibb, North Brunswick, where she worked for 10 years. Surviving are her husband, Frank Kovacs; two sons, Frank Kovacs Jr. of East Brunswick and Louis Matty of the Basking Ridge section of Bernardsville; two daughters, Dolores Skalaban of the Dayton section of South Brunswick and Diane Korobejnyk of Milltown; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
Stanley F. Skarzynski Mr. Skarzynski, 83, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 26 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed at DuPont Photo Products, Sayreville, where he worked for 45 years. Surviving are his wife, Martha “Pat” Harrill Rademacher Skarzynski; four daughters, Jo-Ann Simons of East Brunswick, Susan Wall of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey, Mary Jo Henry of the Toms River section of Dover and Lisa Rademacher of Riverdale; a son, Jacob Rademacher of Piscataway; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A liturgy was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
John A. Sauer, Ph.D. Dr. Sauer, 92, of East Brunswick, professor emeritus at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, died Oct. 31 at home. He became a general engineering instructor at Rutgers in 1936. In 1946 he was named professor and chairman of the Engineering Mechanics Department, and later chairman of the Physics Department, at The Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa., where he taught until 1963. He returned to Rutgers in 1963 as professor and chairman of the Department of Mechanics and Material Science and served as acting dean of the College of Engineering in 1977. His wife, Marion Short Sauer, died in August. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Smith of Camarillo, Calif., and Virginia Sauer, M.D., of Lafayette, Calif.; a brother, Herb Sauer of Falmouth, Maine; a sister, Helen Domarcki of the Monmouth Beach section of South Brunswick; and two grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Rutgers University, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice.
Vera Himich Sasso Mrs. Sasso, 88, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 27 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress with Bonds Clothing Co., New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Leonard Sasso; a son, Leonard Sasso of East Brunswick; a daughter, Teresa Malinosky of the Hamilton Square section of Hamilton; a brother, Michael Himich of South Brunswick; four sisters, Frances Tarkany, Elizabeth Mark and Mary Edwards, all of Spotswood, and Polly Taylor of Florida; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Frost Woods Memorial Park, East Brunswick.
Edward W. Winkler Mr. Winkler, 83, of Brick, formerly of South River, died Oct. 27 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Chicopee Manufacturing, Milltown. He was the former owner of Hillside Liquor Store, Milltown. His wife, Sophie Wistuba Winkler, died in January, and two sons, Edward Winkler Jr. and Gary A. Winkler, both died in 2001. Surviving are a son, Wayne Winkler of Brick; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Services were held at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
John R. Coyle Mr. Coyle, 48, of South Amboy, died Oct. 28 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was employed as a truck driver by Cosco Wholesale Corp., Dayton section of South Brunswick, and worked part time with Capitol Concrete, South Amboy. He was predeceased by his father, Charles. Surviving are his wife, Colleen; his mother, Helen Coyle of Centereach, N.Y.; a son, Anthony Ellison of Reading, Pa.; a daughter, Crystal Hart of Bryant, Ala.; three sisters, Joanne Cullinan, Ronnie Youngs and Geri Smith; a brother, Charles; a grandson; an uncle; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128.
Pasquale “Pat” Sorrentino Mr. Sorrentino, 90, of South Amboy, died Oct. 30. Surviving are his wife, Helen Jakubczak Sorrentino; a son, William Sorrentino of Cherry Hill; two daughters, Beverly Wojie of Watchung and Barbara Maiorelli of Roselle Park; two brothers, Felix Sorrentino of Blacksburg, Va., and Albert Sorrentino of South Amboy; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. A Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge.
