The Old Bridge Department of Parks, Recreation and Social Services will hold its summer roller hockey instructional program for youngsters between the ages of 5-13 on Tuesday evenings beginning June 17 from 7:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Old Bridge Sports Arena. The program instructs players on the finer points of skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting. Players must wear full equipment and scrimmages will be included. The cost is $70 for Old Bridge residents; $100 for non-residents. Registration is being accepted at the Arena on Tuesday evenings or at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Social Services in the municipal complex. The game played was even holes, half handicap. Sandi Sulam won Flight A with a 15, followed by Marge Widder (15.5), Kathy Farmer (15.5), and Mary Ann Gelsinon (16). Jean Ertle won Flight B with a 14, followed by Marion Batchelor (14.5), Dot Peters (14.5) an Abbey Lorber (15.5). Rosann Marosy won Flight C with a 10.5, followed by Terri MacAllister (13), Ronnie Bohn (13) and Madeline DiMaria (15.5). Edythe Gutman had fewest putts with 15. In the rain-shortened Sunburst Tournament held in West Windsor, the U14 Cranbury Cyclones girls defeated the PDA Galaxy, 3-1. The Cyclones got on the board first when Emily Kotowski converted a penalty kick. PDA tied the game with a goal late in the first half. The Cyclones regained the lead midway through the second half when Alyssa Gioino scored off a nice crossing pass from Emily Kotowski. Erin Higgins added an insurance goal off a feed from Danielle Cokeley. Katie Burke, Stephanie Grubb, and Leslie Hankins all played well. The Cyclones dropped the second game to a strong Mount Laurel team, 2-0. They played Mount Laurel after giving up two early goals, but could not score on the wet field conditions. The Monroe Magic U13 girls team won two of two games over this past weekend. For the second time this season, Alanna Carr scored four goals and Leah Scarpetti scored one to defeat the Hillsborough Hornets, 5-3. Along with a lone goal, assists for Carr were from Alyssa Theinert, Lisa Riccobene and Leah Scarpetti. Against the Berkeley Heights Bearcats the Magic finished 4-1, with goals scored by Kerry Snow off an assist by Lisa Riccobene, who also scored a goal off an assist by Leah Scarpetti. Alanna Carr scored off an assist by Lauren Kurlander, and Christina Gallegos off a pass by Scarpetti. Nicole Ragucci led a tight coordinated defense with help from Monica Polick and Allison Arnold. The Cranbury Little Falcons, a girls’ U12 team (U13 in the fall), is looking for a couple of players for the upcoming fall season. There are openings for a goalie and field players. The team plays in Flight 1 in the Mid-New Jersey Youth League. Interested players can e-mail or call for the team’s résumé and information on tryouts.
