Lauds professionalism of fire and police personnel

I am writing this letter to thank the Spotswood Fire Department and the Spotswood Police Department for their efforts on the evening of May 12.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., I believed my house was struck by lightning. After some hesitation, not wanting to cry wolf, I called the Spotswood police and explained that I thought my house had been struck but that I was unsure.

I did not want to bother anyone if what I thought to be the case was not, as I know both the police and fire departments must have been inundated with calls that evening due to the severe thunderstorms. The dispatcher told me that he would send the police and the fire departments to my house and that I should never hesitate to call them.

Within minutes, everyone was at my house, and it was determined that my house was, in fact, struck by lightning. They traced where they believed the lightning hit to where it eventually grounded.

The fire department personnel went through the entire house, including the basement and all attic areas, to check for hot spots, and they confirmed that everything was secure. Needless to say, through their efforts and genuine concern for my family’s well-being, I was able to sleep that night knowing that my family and I were safe.

I just wanted to say thank you to the members of the Spotswood Fire Department and the Spotswood Police Department for their professionalism in this matter. My family and I truly appreciate your efforts.

Kathryn L. Krause
