Fund-raisers
May 27

• The Spotswood High School Band is participating in a Kash for Kids fund-raising program that pays the band $2 for each empty inkjet or laser computer cartridge collected. Collection boxes are at the high school, Memorial School and KrisKell Creations Hair Salon, all Summerhill Road; Schoenly School, Kane Avenue; the Spotswood Public Library, Spotswood Post Office and Pulaski Bank, all Main Street. Cartridges should be placed in sealed plastic bags. Proceeds benefit the band. Fund-raiser will be ongoing throughout the year.


May 27-29

• Sacred Heart Parish Carnival, 6-10 p.m. on May 27, 6-11 p.m. on May 28 and 29, in the church parking lot, between Washington Avenue and Main Street, South Amboy. Rides, games, food tent, takeouts, 50/50 raffles. (732) 721-0040.


May 29

• Car wash, sponsored by Monroe Girl Scouts, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Jamesburg Gulf service station, Forsgate Drive and Perrineville Road. Cost is $5 for cars, $7 for vans and sport utility vehicles. Hot dogs, chips, soda available for purchase. Proceeds go to the Scouts’ upcoming Wider Opportunity/ Destinations trip.

May 31

• Memorial Day Picnic, sponsored by South River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1451, 1:30 p.m., at the post home’s picnic grove, 31 Reid St. Hot dogs, hamburgers. Admission is free to members and guests, $5 for nonmembers. (732) 254-9834.


June 2

• Golf outing, sponsored by the Friends of the Men’s Club of Congregation Anshe Emeth, South River, at Bunker Hill Golf Club, Griggstown section of Franklin. June 4

• Scramble, sponsored by the Columbiettes of Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council No. 4907, doors open at 6 p.m., event begins at 8 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Crescent Avenue, Spotswood.
