Events scheduled at Monroe Senior Center

A variety of upcoming programs will be offered at the Monroe Township Senior Center, 1 Municipal Plaza. For more information and to register for events, call (732) 521-6111, unless otherwise indicated.

A meditation session is planned for 10 a.m. on June 1 at the center. Judy Kalaman, C.S.W., will demonstrate a variety of relaxation and breathing techniques. Registration is required by May 27.

A six-week exercise course in chi kung, the ancient Chinese healing art, will begin at 11 a.m. on June 3. Ruth Golush, a Chi kung expert, will demonstrate gentle movements, visualization, breath work and more to enhance overall well-being. Class dates are June 3, 10, 17, July 1, 8 and 15. Cost is $15 per person. Space is limited. Advance registration, with course fee and a signed consent form, is required by May 27.

Keith Smith, artist and lecturer, will examine the historical and ideological environment of the Dada and Surrealism art movements during a slide-illustrated talk set for 1:30 p.m. on June 3. Works by Dali, Magritte, Ernst, Miro and Duchamp will be examined. Program is free of charge, but interested individuals must register and obtain an admission ticket by May 27.

Seniors are invited to discover the extensive collection of Diaghilev-era ballet artifacts from the Zimmerli Art Museum, New Brunswick, in a slide show planned for 10:30 a.m. on June 7 at the center. Program is free of charge, but interested individuals must register and obtain an admission ticket by June 1.

The Friends of the Senior Center Inc., will hold a general meeting at 1:30 p.m. on June 8. The event will include an ice cream social and music by the Melody Singers of Clearbook adult community, Monroe. Cash Bingo is planned for 1-3 p.m. on June 18. Admission is $3 and includes three playing cards. Call the center to register. Registration is not necessary for the general Friends meeting, unless transportation is needed. Call Claire Kelly at (732) 521-6111 for transportation. Other inquires on the meeting, ice cream social and bingo event should be directed to the Friends office at (732) 521-2101.

A Grandparenting Workshop is scheduled for 1:30-3:30 p.m. on June 10. The Princeton Healthcare System’s Community Education and Outreach Program will present the seminar, which is designed to promote safety of newborns and young children. An open forum will follow. Registration is required by June 3.
